Please find the proper size by measuring the left arm from the neck to left hand middle of palm with arm straightened. If it is between a range, it is better to go with the smaller size.

18.5"-20" arm to palm, 1/2 size violin
20"-21.5" arm to palm, 3/4 size violin

CELLO SIZING

here are a few common methods used to determine the correct cello size for a student and It’s very important to pick the right cello size so that practicing and learning the instrument will be enjoyable. The larger the cello means the larger the distance between fingered notes on the strings. Matching specific height/span measurements is the more precise and best place to start.

The age/size recommendations are based on the average heights and arm spans for each age group.
4-6 years old 1/8 size
5-7 years old 1/4 size
7-11 years old 1/2 size
11-15 years old 3/4 size
15 year and older 4/4 size

BODY MEASUREMENTS (arms/height)
Measurement charts show the most comfortable cello size based on three of your body measurements: Height, Arm Length and Finger Span

Height to cello: Up to 4' 1/4 size 4’-4’6” 1/2 size 4’6”-5’ 3/4 size 5’ and up 4/4 size

Arm length to cello: 18"-20” 1/4 size 20"-22” 1/2 size 22"-24” 3/4 size 24” and up 4/4 size

Finger Span to fingerboard: (Index to pinky) 3"-4” 1/4 size 4"-5” 1/2 size 5"-6” 3/4 size 6” and up 4/4 size
