About Gábor Draskóczy
Gábor Draskóczy was born in 1976 in Budapest, Hungary. He has been playing the violin since the age of six and by the age of ten he decided to become a violin maker. Driven by this dream and determination he graduated in violin making from Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in 1996.
In the following years he further developed his knowledge of making alongside Bence Hollo and Florian Leonhard. Gábor's job is not only a profession for him, but a lifelong passion. He sees instrument-making as a learning process, one which makers are continually gaining experience. In Florian Leonhard's London workshop Gábor is constantly inspired by a variety of Classical Cremonian Instruments and honed his skills in making bench copies of Amati, Stradivari, Guarneri and Guadagnini.
Gábor's meticulous bench copies not only create the appearance of the originals but have the warm, rich tone of the Old Italian Instruments. His experience and devotion to further mastering his techniques led him to win double gold medals in 2016 at the prestigious Violin Society of America 22nd International Competition.
