A late 19th century German Cello in a Stradivarius model by Ernst Kessler, made in Berlin, 1883. The length of back is 75.9 cm, yet has a petite neck giving it a manageable feeling. The cello generates an open sound that is even across the registers, with a rounded focus and strong projection.
About the maker:
Ernst, Born 1856 Markneukirchen, died 1931 Berlin. He was an award winning violin and bow maker. Kessler was a pupil of August Voigt and Lugwig Otto. He also worked for August Riechers in Berlin. In 1882, he established his own workshop independently in Charlottenburg, an area in Berlin. Kessler succeeded Riechers as the principal repairer to the Hochschule. He was known to make fine Stradivari model finely made with good materials. During his life, he won several awards for his work.
